On June 4, 1942, U.S. Navy dive bombers led by pilots like Norman “Dusty” Kleiss turned the tide of the Pacific War at the Battle of Midway. After American codebreakers uncovered Japan’s plans, Admiral Nimitz deployed carriers Enterprise, Hornet, and Yorktown to ambush the Japanese fleet. In just six minutes, dive bombers destroyed four Japanese carriers-Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu-the same ships that had struck Pearl Harbor.
